Womad Weekend

Just finished a 3 days of 4pm to midnight sessions of WOMAD 2004 at Fort Canning Park. I really didn't expect to be wow-ed by the closing set of Day 1 (Zap-Mama, a group of africanos who infuse tribal beatboxing - screeching with electronic harmonics.) The other acts were so-so and the only other one that was good were the Temple of Sound with their guests from Africa and Egypt. Check out WOMAD Singapore at WOMAD.ORG.

Happened to drop by COMEX today, RAM of all sorts was really cheap, even the Hyper-X kingstons with the 1337 heatsinks were going for 30-40% less. Best looking chick was another Panasonic rehash from earlier years. Singapore should have it's own E3 instead of lame lay-long lay-long exhibitions for what are basically sim lim square stalls.

Applied for 7 unis at the weekend's aussie education fair. Course choices for all unis were IT, Computer Science and Finance (filler), in that order. Hopefully, all of them give me either IT or Computer Science and I wouldn't have to decide between the two.

Unexpected Greetings!

Greetings from Bean Town! Its my first night, we're down in our neighbours basement apartment unit. My brother and I flip open our laptops to see if we can grab any free wireless networks. Lord behold, i found 8 of them! I haven't had time to dwell and explore, but once i do i will update you.

Good news on IKEA, it got cancelled, so we got refunded. 1 item was out and the idiots cancelled the whole order. Strange practice.

This from ting's blog shows that IKEA US is really slow, unreliable, and all those negative things. Alex, can you get a refund on the stuff you've ordered? Or else you might need to think about contingency plans for the next 3 weeks until stuff gets delivered.

Till this day my rigs have all been hand-me-downs because of my brother's pc upgrade cycle. Games there and all my crap here. It's sorta better I guess. I'm worried with all the money I saved up for all the hardware will lead me to go crazy, either purchasing an overpowered ultraportable or a powerbook (if and only if Tiger is out and I can actually adapt to a Mac)

Sooo anyway the post was in October 2001 and I think top-end for its time, and I think I'd still be happy with it if I had it. A souped-up windoze system now would be like choking out 3.8gigapentiumcycles, humming along to a blazing 4th generation ATI card, ripping on dual-dvd burners along with 240gb harddisks. Ahhh, tech just never goes out of style...

In other news, I have a dilemma on Saturday, I have Bryan's (Brandon's Cousin) BBQ, my aunt's dinner party AND my brother's housewarming. How the fxxk am I supposed to go for everything. Makes me just wanna drop everything and hop into Brewerkz with some buddies, get pissed and merry before the eventuality of everyone leaving for their own destinies settles in.

I wanted to see AvP so badly (damn you Bryan). On a lighter note, my girlfriend finally believes that "Cherry" as Cher is so affectionately known, is really Cher and not a fling. The paranoia is gone, so is the sharp pain at the temples of my skull.

Just caught AvP with brandon, sorry about today's mix up, alex!

The buildup was slow and the action too little to be enjoyable but I loved every minute of it. Hardcore Predator fans might bitch about the show like Spider-man fans, though overall it was a smashing experience to just see this all-time favorite match-up come to light.

Btw folks, our own Alex is leaving for the U.S of A in a couple of days, and I mentioned that because I'm truly sorry I can't make it for sushi tomorrow. Have some lasagne party going on for my brother's birthday. sigh.
